About Shay
Shanda is a woman of integrity, compassion, and vision. Her strength and determination have been evident in both her personal and professional journey. After giving birth to twins prematurely and learning of her son David’s diagnosis of cerebral palsy, Shanda turned adversity into purpose. Rather than allowing these challenges to deter her, she created an opportunity to build something greater than herself. In 2011, she founded The David Center of Hope, a nonprofit organization designed to support neurodiverse individuals and ensure they are included in community life.
Through this organization, Shanda has hosted inclusive events such as sock hops, bowling nights, and back-to-school outings, creating welcoming spaces for individuals of all abilities. Her work has not only brought joy and support to countless families but has also received overwhelmingly positive feedback from the community. The David Center of Hope is a testament to her commitment to equity, inclusion, and empowerment.
Shanda’s academic and professional achievements further demonstrate her preparedness to join our sisterhood. She’s in process of completing a Master of Arts in Communications and Training. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Governors State University and an Associate of Arts in General Studies from Olive-Harvey College. She currently serves in Chicago Public Schools within the transportation department, where she supports students with special needs by ensuring their safe and respectful commute. Her role includes assisting wheelchair bond students and maintaining a positive environment on the school bus.
She is also a Certified Mandated Reporter, Certified Homemaker with Medical Terminology training, and holds CPR and First Aid Certification. With over a decade of experience in management and caregiving, she exemplifies excellence, professionalism, and a heart for service.
Shanda Gaines-Simpson is the embodiment of Sigma Gamma Rho’s mission of greater service, greater progress. Her leadership, humility, and lifelong dedication to uplifting others make her an ideal candidate and a future asset to this esteemed sisterhood.
